Etymology 1 edit

First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 바회〮 (Yale: pàhwóy). The Middle Korean word also meant "rock" (> modern 바위 (bawi)), although this may be coincidental.
