From Proto-Iranian *paridayjah. Equivalent to 𐬞𐬀𐬌𐬭𐬌 (pairi, “around”) + 𐬛𐬀𐬉𐬰𐬀 (daēza, “wall”). Cognate with Persian فردوس (ferdaws, “paradise, heaven”).
