1. (rare, chiefly Netherlands, nonstandard) Alternative spelling of -ing.

   beïng, doïng, goïng, tryïng

Usage notes

• Replaces ‐ing only if vowel sounds are just prior of ‐ing’s pronunciation ; the diaeresis is used to indicate separate syllables; thus: "beïng", but "running" (not *"runnïng").
