From a Slavic suffix meaning "son of", such as Belarusian -віч (-vič, -vich), Russian -вич (-vič, -vich), Serbo-Croatian -vić, Slovene -vič, or Ukrainian -вич (-vyč, -vych), all from Proto-Slavic *-vъ + *-iťь.
