Etymology edit

From /b/ - Random, an imageboard on 4chan. It combines a humorously censored version of bastard with /b/, while rhyming with retard. /b/ itself derives its name from the Futaba Channel (2chan) equivalent.

Noun edit

/b/tard (plural /b/tards)

  1. (Internet slang) A habitual poster on the /b/ - Random board on 4chan; a member of the /b/ community.

not to sound insulting, but are you a /b/tard by any chance?
    • 2015 March 13, David Kushner, “4chan’s Overlord Christopher Poole Reveals Why He Walked Away”, in Rolling Stone[2]:
Poole’s efforts to rein in some of the chaos earned him scorn not just from the /b/tards but also from the largest collective of wired rebels in the world, Anonymous, which had first coalesced on 4chan around 2006 as a kind of inside joke (“Anonymous” is the default handle on 4chan).
