Etymology

edit

First attested as Aerden-hout in 1517-1524. Compound of an unclear first element and hout (rising deciduous forest). A local etymology holds that the first element is derived from ander (other) (as opposed to Haarlemmerhout), but there are no old attestations which confirm this derivation.
