Etymology edit
From akro- (“tip, end, beginning”) + -onym (“name”). First attested in the early 1900s.[1] The term was modelled after Homonym and Synonym, and the parts are ultimately derived from Ancient Greek ἄκρον (ákron, “end, extremity”) and ὄνυμα (ónuma, “name”).
