abjad numerals

• Abjad numerals are Arabic letters used as numbers. When Arabic letters are used as numbers, they follow a traditional order based on the Hebrew alphabet. Sometimes the numbers are marked by an overline.

• The traditional abjad sequence is:

أ ب ج د ه‍ و ز ح ط ي ك ل م ن س ع ف ص ق ر ش ت ث خ ذ ض ظ غ

• The abjad is grouped into these words to facilitate memory:

أبجد هوز حطي كلمن سعفص قرشت ثخذ ضظغ

’ábjad háwwaz ħáṭṭī kálaman sáʕfaṣ qárašat θáχað ḍáẓaġ.

• Units 1–9:

أ ب ج د ﻫ و ز ح ط

• Tens 10–90:

ي ك ل م ن س ع ف ص

• Hundreds 100–900:

ق ر ش ت ث خ ذ ض ظ

• One thousand:

غ
