Etymology edit

Gikun word derived by applying Chinese-derived spelling 灌木 (plant, shrub), a term which decomposes into (irrigation) + (tree), to native Japanese word (ki, tree) thus denoting woody plants in general.

Noun edit

灌木 ()[1](ki) →  (),  () (ki)

  1. (woody) plant
※The gikun spelling 灌木 (), instead of the standard  () or  (), brings to mind a plants requirement for irrigation () which is the topic of Genesis 2:5 where this gikun is found.
