From Proto-Indo-European *h₃n̥-né-h₂-ti, from the root *h₃neh₂- (to enjoy). Cognate with Ancient Greek ὀνίνημι (onínēmi, to be of use, help), ἀπόνητο (apónēto, to have joy of something).[1]
