Etymology edit
U-stem derivation from the root *sewH- (“to give birth”), thus the original meaning being "birth, fruit of the body". Balto-Slavic, Indo-Iranian, Germanic and also Tocharian B reflect the -nu- derivation from the same root: *suHnús.
