Standard transcription edit

Please use IPA for transliteration. I've done some sample transliterations but i"m not very familiar with the wiktionary's "IPA" template--why do I get "English Phonology" in balloon text when I hover over "IPA"? I tried specifying lang=te or lang=ta and even lang=all, no difference.

The IPA link links to "IPA chart for English". There are several other IPA pages available, including Wiktionary:International Phonetic Alphabet, w:Help:IPA, and w:International Phonetic Alphabet. —Stephen 07:50, 23 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
In the transliteration, how are dental, retroflex, palatals, etc. marked? Very few of the transliteration appear to be in IPA. Is there a standard way to mark this without using the IPA? I'm working on data I collected, and I can't hear the differences between those sounds, I was hoping to use this to help me. Any suggestions?

I updated the transliteration for ML to use IPA. The transliteration is phonemic (phonetic transliteration is messier and has many variants). I also tried to make the formatting and variant selection consistent. I did not do the other languages because I am not familiar with them. Can someone familiar with the other languages convert the transliteration to IPA and make the variant selection consistent? Finiteint (talk) 03:30, 10 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
