From Kazakh Әуелхан (Äuelxan, male given name), consisting of әуел (äuel, “first”) + хан (xan, “khan, ruler”), and various surnames derived therefrom, including Әуелханов m (Äuelxanov), Әуелханова f (Äuelxanova), and the patronymics Әуелханұлы m (Äuelxanūly), Әуелханқызы f (Äuelxanqyzy). Compare the Russian borrowed form Ауельхан (Aujelʹxan), etc.
