- (mathematics, mnemonic) An acronym for the arithmetic order of precedence, with the highest precedence first: Brackets, order, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction
Usage notes edit
This mnemonic leads many to the notion that division is precedent to multiplication, and addition to subtraction; however, these are within the pairs equal in precedence and resolved from left to right.
