From Bay State, a nickname name given to Massachusetts due to the geographical features of Massachusetts Bay, Cape Cod Bay, Buzzards Bay and Narragansett Bay, +‎ -er.

A native or resident of the state of Massachusetts in the United States of America.

Usage notes edit

“Bay Stater” is the official designation of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts^[1] but the federal government style guide prefers “Massachusettsan”.^[2]
