Etymology edit
Canis lupus (“grey wolf”) + arctos (“the Bear”). From being a subspecies of the grey wolf, which resides in the north polar region, where the constellations of the Bears (Ursa Major and Ursa Minor) occupy the celestial northern reaches of the sky, including the North Star (Polaris) of Ursa Minor.
