Deletion debate edit

The following information has failed Wiktionary's deletion process.

It should not be re-entered without careful consideration.

Category:Wikimedia edit

This category currently serves various simultaneous purposes and contains various pieces of information.

  1. Topical category of the entries Wikimedia Commons, Wikinews, Wikipedia and Wikispecies.
  2. Parent category of Category:WMF jargon, that (redundantly, in my opinion) contains all the aforementioned entries.
  3. Parent category of Category:Wikimedia logos.
  4. An illustrated list of Wikimedia projects.
  5. A short description of Wiktionary: "Wiktionary is run by the Wikimedia Foundation, a non-profit foundation registered in Florida, USA. Wikimedia operates several other multilingual and open-content sister wiki projects"
  6. A very obscure introduction: "This category is for projects in the Wikimedia family."

It is very messy and seemingly unnecessary. All these functions can be fulfilled by other pages: the description of "Wiktionary" and the illustrated list of projects is found in WT:Main Page; Category:WMF jargon may possibly be a child of Category:Internet, Category:Wiki, etc.; and Category:Wikimedia logos as the only category of images fits Category:Fundamental nicely.

Therefore, please either delete Category:Wikimedia or make it useful. --Daniel. 01:59, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

First, we get rid of entries in the #Category:WMF jargon, like in the deletion request I've made above. Then we can thoroughly delete any redundant categories and useless categories and so forth. TeleComNasSprVen 07:34, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Category:Wikimedia has many problems, that persist regardless of the results of the deletion request you mentioned. Why should Category:WMF jargon take precedence? --Daniel. 10:39, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Certainly don't keep it in its current form, it's a mess. Mglovesfun (talk) 13:17, 16 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
