I tend to agree - I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed Garfield way back when - actually, what brought it back to my attention was watching Garfield on Saturday morning a few weeks ago over break w/my 9 and 5 year old cousins. It was pretty good. I've only noticed a slight improvement in the daily quality, but perhaps Jim Davis or whomever does the comedy has reached the point where he's better at longer, skit-type humor, either of the 8-minute cartoon variety or of the more-than-3-panels variety.

Nope. Jim changed his mind about it. I believe the script was adapted into a book that was released...but "Judgement Day" will probably not be made. There is a Garfield movie in the works but with a different plot.

Be assured that there are a lot of us out here who dearly love Garfield in his present irascible form. The spider ambulance still does me in. I do believe that Garfield has gradually evolved such that it's a bit more meaningful for older readers. To some extent, it seems that Garfield is aging a bit himself: the Garfield of yore wouldn't have poured his coffee back into the pot no matter how bad the hallucinations were. Would he?
I was surprised to see him imbibe a bird this morning, though. He seems to have made a series of elaborate pacts with the local house mice, whom he was apparently contracted to control. But birds do drive cats crazy, don't they?

I was watching Garfield and Friends the other day. For anyone familiar with the cartoon show, there is a section in the middle with the 'friends' There is a character called Wade Duck who is a real scaredy duck :) He was claiming he was responsible for all sorts of disasters. One thing was mentioned along the lines of, "and wade you were not responsible for the sinking of the Titanic'

I don't like reading Garfield anymore. It's the same jokes over and over. For 20 years! I remember when Garfield, Jon, and Odie used to go to the beach, and when Nermal would come over. Those were interesting. I also like the stories that used to happen a long time ago. If Jim Davis can't come up with any new ideas, he should stop writing the strip. Any strip is charming if it's jokes and story lines aren't constantly rehashed, several times over. I quit reading Garfield, because I know I'll probably find the same joke in some old book.

(Shrug) I thought their Sat. AM incarnation (as a secondary cartoon for "Garfield and Friends") was somewhat amusing..the only place where "US Acres" had anything vaguely resembling success apparently (and the last place where Garfield was given something to do other than smash spiders, it seems).
