Sexual activity between adults and children edit

  • 1988, F. van Ree, “A Pedosexual Pedophile Splitting and Projective Identification”, in Journal of Homosexuality, volume 15, numbers 1-2, →DOI, pages 97–112:
The title of this essay makes a distinction between Pedophilia (DSM-III code 302.83)2 and Pedosexuality—a distinction not to be found in the DSM classification. One speaks of Pedosexuality if sexual contact takes place without a deeper personal involvement by the perpetrator.3

    Pedosexuality
We prefer this term instead of “pedophilia,” which by “philia” conceals the aggressive dimension of these deeds. Pedosexuality focuses on the various dynamics and interactions between perpetrator and victim. Similar to incest are those cases where the perpetrator [] is quite close to the child. Most of the cases of pedosexuality belong to this group. In 2002, both worldwide and in Switzerland, pedosexuality became a public issue when pedosexual crimes committed by Roman Catholic priests decades earlier became a public scandal.

What is pedophilia? What is hebephilia?¶
    []
[] a pedophilic or hebephilic sexual preference does not, in itself, implicate a commitment of child sexual abuse or the consumption of sexually abusive images (belittlingly called ‘child pornography’). The term pedophilia describes a sexual preference, not a sexual behaviour! So there has to be a clear differentiation between pedophilia and pedosexuality/child sexual abuse. Pedosexuality as a clinical term denotes a sexual behaviour towards children and is the equivalent to ‘child sexual abuse’. The expressions ‘pedosexuality’ and ‘pedophilia’ are related but are not identical and cannot be used synonymously.

Pedophilia (sexual attraction to children) edit

  • 2010, Thore Langfeldt, “Is 'pedophilia' a useful or a confusing concept? An empirical study on sexual abuse of children, sexual orientation and typology: implications for therapy”, in Sexual Offender Treatment[2], volume 5, number 1, Lengerich: Pabst Science Publishers, →ISSN, archived from the original on 2013-04-24:
Since pedophilia is defined as a sexual preference disorder based on attraction to children, as is homosexuality and heterosexuality an orientation to same and other-sex adults, respectively, "pedosexuality" might therefore be a better term than pedophilia.
