- A maritime county of England bordered by the North Sea, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Cumbria and North Yorkshire.
Usage notes edit
Sometimes referred to simply as Durham, or more formally as the county of Durham, but never as Durham County or Durhamshire. The county town is also named Durham.
