Einstein field equation
English edit
Alternative forms edit
- EFE (initialism)
Noun edit
Einstein field equation (plural Einstein field equations)
- (relativity) A symmetric 4 × 4 tensor equation in general relativity in which the gravitational force is described as a curvature of spacetime caused by matter and energy.
- The Einstein field equation states that the energy-momentum tensor is directly proportional to the Ricci tensor minus half of the Ricci scalar times the metric tensor plus the cosmological constant times the metric tensor.
Usage notes edit
- A set of ten scalar equations equivalent to the tensor equation is referred as Einstein field equations.
