Description: First Lieutenant R.F. Okershauser perfoming a mallein test for glanders, a bacterial disease common in horses, donkeys, and mules. All animals receive this treatment every 20 days for glanders. La Valdahon, Doubs, France.

In the mallein test, a protein fraction of the glanders bacteria is given by eye drop, causing the eyes to swell in infected animals.
