French seam (plural French seams)

  1. (sewing) A seam that is sewn by first stitching with wrong sides together, then stitching with right sides together so that the unfinished edges are contained within the seam.

      French seams, however, are unsuitable for intricately shaped seamlines and for garments that are closely fitted or might require alterations .
