Luxembourgish edit

Etymology edit

The word could be a simple compound of Häll +‎ Wull (“hell mess”). Probably, however, this is only a secondary motivation of Dutch heleboel (a lot, a great deal).

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): /ˈhæleˌvul/, [ˈhæləˌvul]

Noun edit

Hällewull f (uncountable)

  1. a lot; a medley; a great or confusing number
