Etymology 1 edit

From Middle Low German havene. The word was already borrowed into Middle High German habene; the modern form with -f- is a later adaptation once again based on the Middle Low German form. Ultimately from Proto-Germanic *habnō. Cognate to Dutch haven and English haven.
