Etymology edit

Borrowed from German Heidendorf, from Heiden (heathen) +‎ Dorf (village). It was originally referring to the Pecheneg heathens who settled in the village. The previous name in Romanian, Beșineu, also refers to their ethnicity in Hungarian.
