Etymology

edit

From Old High German hemidi, from Proto-Germanic *hamiþiją. While Ripuarian Hemb as well as Luxembourgish Hiem look more regular, the predominant Moselle Franconian -i- seems difficult to explain, unless one were to postulate an Old High German variant *himidi or possibly *hēmidi.
