Etymology edit
In eastern Finland (Karelia), from Karelian vernacular forms of Ancient Greek Ὑπάτιος (Hupátios), Ancient Greek Ἱππόλυτος (Hippólutos) and Ancient Greek Ἄρχιππος (Árkhippos) (perhaps at least in part through Russian). In Western Finland (South Ostrobothnia), possibly from the Middle Low German given name Hibbe, Hippe, Hippo.[1]
