Dutch edit

Etymology edit

Attested as die Clyngelbeeck in 1538. Etymology uncertain. Perhaps a compound derived from klingelen (tinkle) (after the sound of the rushing water) and beek (brook, creek). A second etymology interprets the first element as kling (height, hill).

Pronunciation edit

  • IPA(key): /ˈklɪ.ŋəlˌbeːk/
  • Hyphenation: Klin‧gel‧beek

Proper noun edit

Klingelbeek n

  1. A neighborhood of Arnhem, Gelderland, Netherlands.
