  1. A taxonomic genus within the family Pinaceae – larch trees, characterized by fascicles of small deciduous leaves, and reflexed cones with persistent scales. They are natives of cooler temperate zones of the northern hemisphere and are related to the Douglas firs (Pseudotsuga).
