Transliteration of တၟံ edit

@Octahedron80, 咽頭べさ, エリック・キィ, Crowley666: Given the choice of tmaṃ, tmaʼ and tmaĥ, which is the better transliteration of တၟံ? All that I can find says tmaʼ, but for it at b-266 and its following four compounds (TBC), the test cases expect a spelling using a nasal. I think the five test cases are wrong, but I would like confirmation. The current entry for the word says it ends in a glottal stop, but perhaps there is an obscure homograph ending in /m/.

I noticed this problem when adding test cases for marking anusvara up. --RichardW57 (talk) 17:12, 8 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @RichardW57, there are a few spelling mistakes on the တၟံ page, I have resolved them all, Erikkukyi is not his native language, so I don't blame him for a few spelling mistakes, so the word တၟံ is still different in the way it is spoken, even though there is a difference in writing style and usage. In Mon literature, vocabulary cannot be written down according to spoken pronunciation, as an example, consider the example below.
  1. Speech style=မအ်
  2. Reading style=တၟအ်
  3. The main form to be used in literature=တၟံ
The vocabulary မအ် and တၟအ် are not allowed to be used in Mon literature because they have the potential to affect writing, so I think you will understand what I am saying, thanks.--𝓓𝓻.𝓘𝓷𝓽𝓸𝓫𝓮𝓼𝓪|𝒯𝒶𝓁𝓀 20:02, 8 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
As the irrelevance above said nothing about there being a pronunciation with a final nasal, I will assume that such a transliteration is an error. --RichardW57 (talk) 15:07, 9 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

@咽頭べさ: You appear to claim that your changes to the Mon script have had no change on what the transliteration should be. That is, in general, an untruth. You have therefore damaged the test. Some transliteration tests for other modules use nonsense words just to rapidly cover the problem space, though apart from this, real words are better. Additionally, kindly do not change elements 1 and 2 of testcases with 'gone = 1', they are a historical record of the testing. Indeed, I would go further, and say do not change them in any cases; rather create a new test pair (transliteration and Mon) with a new number, and comment out the old test, or, if the old test is an 'original', tag it as replaced by setting the field 'gone' to something other than nil or false, and in the new version, which should have a different letter in its 'id', set its 'rep' field to something other than nil or false. I am now going to repair the tests. --RichardW57m (talk) 10:53, 11 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
