Oosterbierum
Dutch edit
Etymology edit
First attested as asterberen in the 13th century. Borrowed from West Frisian Easterbierrum, a compound of Old Frisian āstar (“eastern”) and the dative plural form of bêre (“barn, house”). The toponym contrasts with Westerbeeren, a village destroyed by flooding in 1322.
