Non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese 芬蘭 (SV: Phân Lan), perhaps euphemistically altered due to phân (“feces”) and the influence of phần (“part; portion”), from Mandarin 芬蘭／芬兰 (Fēnlán).
