Habitational surname from a lost manor in Penshurst, Kent, which is recorded as Reneslegh in 1292, Ranshlegh in 1435 and Raneleights Heath in 1800. This placename derives from an uncertain first element + Old English lēah (“woodland clearing, glade”) .
