From pre-Germanic *truppōną, from a nasal suffix/infix paradigm *dr̥bʰ-néh₂- ~ *dr-n̥-bʰ- (cf. *trappōną (to trample)), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *drebʰ- (to tread, step, trip).
