Reduced from Reinmar, ultimately from a Germanic name corresponding to *raginą (“counsel”) + *mēraz (“famous”).
In the original form Reimer is a given name. It first recorded in tax lien registry in 1283. With the property referenced in this registry, the village of Sehestedt was founded.
