Etymology edit
From Ancient Greek δέκα (déka, “ten”) + ὀκτώ (oktṓ, “eight”), from a traditional interpretation of its call as these words; in a Greek fable the bird was sent by the gods in answer to a servant girl's prayer that the world would be told of her paltry salary of 18 coins.
Proper noun edit
- A taxonomic species within the family Columbidae – the Eurasian collared dove or collared dove.
