Talk:лук

Hmmm... Strange. I would have expected лук to mean a bow (i.e., the thingie you use to shoot arrows with), which is what luk means in Slovak, Czech, and other Slavic languages.

I searched for the word on google and the first page I got was http://deja-vu4.narod.ru/Luk.htm where it means what it means in Slovak.

I can't speak for Bulgarian, but my Russian-English dictionary says лук¹ onions, лук² bow... Bosnian also has luk "onion; bow". —Muke Tever 03:20, 1 May 2004 (UTC)

In Slovak onion is cibuľa f. In Czech it is cibule f. So, a common meaning for luk m among various Slavic languages would be the bow (the weapon) and apparently the Eastern and Southern Slavic languages also use it for onion. Very interesting.—Red Prince 03:33, 1 May 2004 (UTC)
