Talk:เบาะแส

The article claimed that Chinese 莫須莫须 was actually a borrowing of this word, using characters that are eventually cognate with the individual syllables of the Thai word. I'm not really convinced by the arguments in the article. Personally, it seems more likely เบาะแส is a simple compound of เบาะ (bɔ̀, origin, source) +‎ แส (sɛ̌ɛ, to reveal, to disclose), and the resemblance to 莫須 was coincidental. I don't know surely. However, at Thai Wiktionary, someone claimed that it was from Khmer compound បោះ (bɑh) + ខ្សែ (khsae), without any reference, which did not happened in history. I guessed that Khmer phono-semantic-borrowed from Thai instead. --Octahedron80 (talk) 10:59, 4 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
