To me it seems unlikely that something with 乳 in it wouldn't mean a provider of milk. I would like to see some citations, and I wouldn't trust a dictionary. Fugyoo 23:11, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

It's quite hard to find metaphorical uses of this word, but here's some:

• 胡经之，《文艺美学论》，华中师范大学出版社，2000：

  板桥自幼丧母，从小就由乳母抚养长大。乳母费氏为同村贫妇，小时就给板桥祖母当侍仆，为人慈祥忠厚。

• 王振羽，《诗人帝王: 权力意志者的性情与意境》，济南出版社，2003：

  12岁的时候，体弱多病的母亲也去世了，据说拓跋浚从小由自己的乳母抚养。拓跋浚非常尊重自己的乳母，他掌握大权之后给自己的乳母很高的地位。

• 薄松年，《中國藝術史》，聯經出版，2006：

  出身於破落書香門第，幼年孤貧，靠乳母撫養，年經時苦讀詩書，希望有所作為，但仕途並不順達，20多歲中秀才，40歲中舉，其間曾為維持生活設館教書和在揚州賣晝，44歲時方考中進士，直至50歲後才有機會出任山東市縣、繩縣知縣。

• 劉潞，《古稀天子乾隆》，商務印書館(香港)，1987：

• 《台灣慈善四百年》，經典雜誌，2006：
