Pronunciation edit

After consulting my physical dictionary, I realized it could be pronounced either /ˈhɑnəkə/ or /ˈxɑnəkə/ and still be proper English (not Jewish like (ḥānukkâ). The dictionary also said that the second syllable was not ʊ but ə. As a Jew in a highly Jewish area, the most common pronunciation I have heard is /ˈxɑnəkə/, and that wasn't even speaking Hebrew (which not many people know here). Are these correct, or is Wiktionary correct? Thanks!

You are correct, it should be /ˈhɑnəkə/ or /ˈxɑnəkə/. —Stephen 02:19, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
