Talk:I'm transsexual

Latest comment: 8 years ago by Equinox

Why is the phrasebook all about sex, and wanting to have sex, and wanting to express one's sexuality. What happened to traditional phrasebooks where you wanted to talk about your car breaking down, or what kind of eggs you wanted for breakfast. Am I just horrendously old-fashioned or is our phrasebook a stupid joke? Equinox 21:53, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I think you nailed it there. :P -- Liliana 21:54, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
1) What is the percentage of world's population that are transsexual? 2) From a practical point of view, how likely would someone want to express this even if they were transsexual? I don't remember ever having to express my sexuality when travelling. I get stuck mostly on things related to practical stuff like buying food or asking for directions (flashbacks of my trip in Germany and my insistence on pretending that I couldn't speak English). There are plenty of ways to use your body language to represent the phrases related to sexuality; they are usually more easily achieved than, let's say, asking for directions. I'd love to have more travel-y phrasebook entries (though I don't think travel is the only thing that the phrasebook would be useful for) but I have a hard time thinking of anything I feel is worth adding. Always open to suggestions. — [Ric Laurent]11:27, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oh also I think we voted on a fucking stupid rule that requires attestation from print phrasebooks or something, didn't we? That makes it difficult. (For the record (I've been saying that a lot recently) there are phrasebooks that cover naughty/slang language in which a lot of that sex stuff is actually attestable. Though they tend to get a lot more colorful than even I've let myself get.) — [Ric Laurent]11:29, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Nah, that vote failed. -- Liliana 12:08, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Incidentally, if transsexual and transgendered aren't synonyms, then our "definition" here is wrong! Equinox 01:53, 15 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
