Is this an indigenous (Miskito) word? Does it have anything to do with mosquito? 24.29.228.33 21:11, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

The native name for the language is Mískitu . The name of the language and the name of the insect are not related. The word mosquito is a Spanish diminutive of mosca "a fly", so it means "little fly". The similarity in the words is a coincidence, and they do not even sound all that similar in Spanish. The stress for the language name is on the first syllable in Spanish (on the second syllable for the insect) and the first vowel is different. --EncycloPetey 21:16, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
