Why is it written in Latin script in the article? "Mycenaean Greek po-ni-ki-jo" literally transliterates to π‘πππ, which is also apparently the word for a date palm. Should this be fixed? Οr2 (talkΒ β’ changes) 17:39, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
- I think the Mycenaean Greek etymology might not be valid, so this point might be moot. I'll do some research and see if I can find any evidence for po-ni-ki-jo as an ethnic or toponym for Phoenician / Phoenicia, but all of the recent research does not support it. - So π‘πππ (po ni ki ja) is an ethnic adjective (according to Wiktionary) but π‘πππ (po ni ki jo) isn't? Could they be masculine/feminine forms/inflections of the same word? (I'm not familiar with Mycenaean grammar). And the "murex" sense seems to come from the fact that the Phoenicians made dye from Murex shells which is purple.
