My question is, do we have evidence that this has ever been used as a given name at all before Doyle came up with Sherlock Holmes? We know it's a surname, and we know many surnames also end up as given names, but I have never seen evidence that this one has. --Dbachmann 21:31, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
