Alternative pronunciation
editI don't know how to encode pronunciation so should not edit myself. It seems like the lists pronunciation is something like 'ay-pop-TOE-sis' ? This is now a common pronunciation. However it is also acceptable (and once was preferred) to use 'ay-poe-TOE-SIS.' In this case, the 2nd p is not pronounced, and the 2nd syllable has a bit less emphasis. This preserves significance of the 'apo' prefix, and is consistent with the silent initial 'p' in 'ptosis.' - Hi. I’ve added a US pronunciation given alongside the RP one in the OED’s entry for (deprecated template usage) apoptosis; unfortunately, it does not match your claimed pronunciation. TBH and FWIW, the pronunciation you suggest sounds very strange to me. Nevertheless, if you can find a reference for your claim, I’d be happy to add the information and the reference to the entry for you. † ﴾(u):Raifʻhār (t):Doremítzwr﴿ 11:54, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
