Talk:calice

I made a modification to this page once that was reversed. "Calice" (also often rendered with a circumflex over the "a" and/or -iss instead of -ice) as a swearword in QC French has nothing to do with the calyx. It comes from the same source as all the other church-related expletives (tabernacle/tabarnak, ostie, sacrement, etc.). The etymology is self-evident--expletives in many languages come straight from religious vocabulary. Please pay attention to the well-attested, sensible, and consistent history of these words rather than inventing oblique false etymologies. 96.250.181.9 05:59, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I plead innocent - an IP added it. (And the you, another IP, fixed it. Thank you.) --Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 06:54, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
