What does "capite censi" mean? It referred to the proletariat of ancient Rome. 81.68.255.36 14:02, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
- In that phrase, capite is the ablative singular of caput (“head”), and censi is the genitive of census. It is roughly "head/top of the census/register". I assume this is because they were listed before others in the census register. --EncycloPetey 23:09, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
