Talk:chit

When I was in US Navy boot camp at RTC Great Lakes, Illinois in 1991, we were given chits instead of real money to buy our toiletries and pay for haircuts and laundry services, etc. I would be interested in seeing if someone could find a way to define this better and fit it into one of the numismatic / exonumia articles.

Another type of chit we had in the Navy, was a request chit. Anything we had to ask for in writing was done on this, in triplicate. It was routed up the Chain of Command and approved or disapproved.

Another type of chit I have heard of is a blood chit. I'd like to see that defined in here also.

Sorry, I would do all this myself, but I don't feel I know enough about chits to do it justice. Wikipedia User:JAYMEDINC --JAYMEDINC 20:42, 7 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Board game chit edit

The word chit (as a noun) is commonly used by board game players (on specialised discussion forums, in particular). According to the Chit (board wargames) article on Wikipedia, “chits are a type of wargame counter that are generally not directly representational”. My impression is that the term is used in all kinds of board games, though, and not just war games. I can only guess that this use of the word is related to those derived from Hindi chit (a small piece of paper or a note), but it could as well have another origin. In any case, it would be nice if this use of the word could be covered.
