- No. Chortling has been around in wide use far longer than video games have, so even if it's strongly associated in the minds of gamers with this character, this is just one more in a long line of those who chortle. Chuck Entz (talk) 17:22, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

first published in 1855 but only introduced to the public in his 1871
Seems quaint. Wiktionary seems to agree with my impression that 'publish' means 'introduce to the public'.
I'm reluctant to edit the entry, as the author obviously refers to distinct events, and I don't want to obliterate that.
